My Favourite Things

Dear Readers, it has been a very long day, what with technology problems and deadlines and other such nonsense, and so, as I have absolutely no brain cells left, here are some of my favourite photographs from the past few years. As you might expect, quite a few of them feature foxes – the one at the top was taken in my garden, but the little one below was in St Pancras and Islington Cemetery, and very pretty she was too.

Then there are those cheeky parakeets…

And the birds of Coldfall Wood, such as this treecreeper….

Or this stock dove

or this song thrush…

or even these fledgling long-tailed tits

But of course, my heart belongs to invertebrates in the end, and so I leave you with a bumblebee….

and a jumping spider….

and a rather splendid rose chafer beetle. And now I’m off to get a cold drink and put my feet up for half an hour. I hope you’re all taking care of yourselves, and drinking lots of fluids (not just beer :-))

I wish you a calmer, more relaxed day. Having said that, your photos today are lovely and I’m glad to have seen them again.

I love the foxes and the birds, but I’m not so keen on the beetle and the spider!

Deadlines and technology problems often seem to go hand in hand, I find. Having worked very long hours for days, including last weekend, I’m now in a spaced-out, post-deadline state, but looking forward to a few days swimming in the sea and sitting in shady spots with a good book! I hope you have a relaxing weekend too.

Yep, it’s almost as if the computers know that you’re in a desperate hurry and decide to have a go-slow! I hope you have a lovely swim and read over the weekend, Liz.

A few years ago I stayed for a couple of nights near Finsbury Park station . One night I was returning from a long day in Central London around dusk and to my surprise was accompanied by a fox casually walking along the other side of the street . When I mentioned it to my host he confirmed that it was a regular occurrence particularly when “green bins” were due for emptying the next day.

Yep, if you’re out and about in the evening you’re more or less guaranteed to see a fox around here. The local greengrocer said he saw a vixen teaching her cub how to open the food waste bins when he arrived at 4 a.m. one morning….
