The eclipse through a colander!
Dear Readers, it was a perfect evening for eclipse-watching on Wednesday. Lots of people headed for Hampstead Heath or Alexander Palace, or even further afield, but I really wanted to be quiet and just watch without other folk around.
As the light started to change, it lit up all the spiders’ webs on the mahonia and the lilac. I love the way that things you wouldn’t notice suddenly become visible.
But what was most interesting was that, as the light falls, four pigeons land on the gutter above my head. Firstly, feral pigeons never normally frequent the garden, but secondly, they seem to stare at the sun, as if trying to work out what’s going on. I wonder what they can see? I know pigeons can see polarised light, so I’m sure their view of the sun is very different to ours.
