Winner of the 2026 Dog Photography Awards – Outdoor Category – Photographer Elena Marchi

Dear Readers, people often think that you have to go to exotic places and photograph unusual things to win awards, but sometimes it’s the creatures that are closest to us that make the most evocative images. So I enjoyed looking at the winners of the  Dog Photography Awards 2026 – I particularly like the London-based photo above, though what time of day it was to get the Millennium Bridge completely empty I have no idea. The dog is a Galgo, a Spanish hunting breed that is sometimes killed brutally or left as a stray when its working days are over. You can read Marchi’s story here and her website is here.

‘Loved and Hated’ – a tribute to Bully breeds by Katie Brockman

The overall winner is this photo of Caldwell, the Pit Bull, by owner and professional photographer Katie Brockman. The newspaper headlines on the collar show the demonising of the breed, while the headlines on the ‘crown’ show the other side of the the story.

‘Winter Launch’ by Nika Kuplenk Golobič

And finally, this is the winner of the Action Category for 2026 – the dog is Ori, an Australian Shepherd, and he’s hurtling towards a frisbee. Golobič is from Slovenia, and her website is here.
